What is the difference between a bar chair and a bar stool?

The main distinction lies in the height and the presence of a backrest. A bar stool with a backrest is similar to a high bar chair: it provides valuable back support for extended use. A bar stool without a backrest is more compact and easier to slide under the counter, making it more suitable for small spaces or islands where you sit for shorter periods. A swivel bar stool provides freedom of movement, ideal for an open-plan kitchen or convivial bar area. At Maison Pavane, you will find all three formats to meet every need.

What bar stool height should you choose?

The height of a bar stool should be chosen according to where it will be used. To sit comfortably on your comfortable bar stool, there should be a gap of 25 to 30 cm between the stool seat and the tabletop beneath which it will be placed. This simple safety measurement primarily ensures a minimum of 10 cm between the top of your knee and the lower edge of the bar, while accommodating all body types.

To choose the right height for your bar stool, here are the essential guidelines:

• For an island, bar or table measuring 90 cm: choose stools of approximately 65 cm.
• For a bar counter, table or kitchen island measuring 1 metre: opt for stools of approximately 75 cm.
• For a 110 cm bar: allow for a seat height of 80 to 85 cm.

Of course, you can choose adjustable bar stools mounted on a gas lift, whose height can be adjusted to suit your height and preference.
