Today, the stool takes centre stage, particularly the tall stool or bar stool that goes so well with our kitchen islands and open-plan kitchen bars. So we love to show it off for all to see! The stool is meant to be functional and beautiful... In short, the stool has to be more stylish than ever! It's therefore important to choose the right seat and upholstery, the structure of the legs and, of course, the height! Because unlike the more versatile low stool, the tall stool or bar stool needs to fit perfectly with the height of your kitchen island or bar.

What height of stool should you choose for a bar, table or island measuring 90 to 95 cm? Which bar stool offers maximum comfort? What size should your bar stools be?

The height of a stool is chosen first and foremost according to where it will be used. To choose the right bar stool for your table, it's recommended to allow a gap of 25 to 35 cm between the seat of your stool and the surface of the table or island beneath which it's placed. Why allow for this precise measurement: it ensures a minimum of 10 cm between the top of the knee and the underside of the bar or table. Some of our bar stools are adjustable and fitted with a gas lift mechanism under the seat, allowing you to adjust their height according to the user's build. A really handy feature!

To choose your bar stool, or a stool in general, keep these figures in mind

• a stool 45 cm high will let you eat at a standard table.
• a stool 65 cm high is suited to a bar 90 to 95 cm high.
• a stool 75 cm high is the right size for a table or bar counter set at a height of 1 m.

As you'll have gathered: choosing the right stool isn't complicated, you just need to take accurate measurements at the time of purchase, so your bar stool sits at exactly the right height and can offer your guests a moment of relaxation, comfort and conviviality all at once!

Wooden, metal, velvet or fabric stools: which material should you choose?

Depending on the room in which you plan to place your stool, the choice of material matters. If you're choosing a side stool for your kitchen, make sure it matches your table and kitchen cupboard doors, of course, but also check whether the material is easy to clean. The same goes for a bathroom: if you fancy having a side stool there, you could opt for a wood that withstands moisture, such as cedar, for example. For lower-risk rooms (living room, bedroom, office), you can let your current tastes run free. If you're short on space, why not also opt for a lovely storage stool or pouffe, which not only gives you extra seating but also a small additional storage space to hide away magazines, a throw or any other everyday item you use regularly but which doesn't quite fit in with your decor!
