What size should a garden table be?

To choose your ideal table, it's important to first work out how much space is available where you'd like to put it. The size of a garden table also depends on the number of people who will regularly be sitting at it, and how you'd like to arrange your garden chairs. Are you a family of three or four? Go for a smaller but extendable table if you enjoy having guests over. Don't have much space but want a table for certain occasions and to entertain comfortably? Choose a folding table, which is easy to put away and helps you save space.

Otherwise, some garden tables come with extension systems. Indeed, certain garden tables are extendable, either with an additional leaf that slots into place, or with leaves already fixed to the table that fold down and up using a hinge system, or a "butterfly leaf" system, where the two halves of the table are pulled apart to reveal an extra leaf that enlarges the table.

How do you look after your garden or outdoor table?

We're always looking for ways to make our garden table easier to maintain, aren't we? Here are a few tips to help.

Wood is one of the more demanding materials to maintain. Water and soap will usually be enough for everyday marks, but a care treatment, chosen according to the wood type, should also be applied to help preserve its colour over time. You can also sand the wood along the grain to restore your garden table.

Materials such as steel, aluminium and resin clean easily. All you need is water and soap. For stone, you'll need to apply a water-repellent treatment to protect the table from moisture. If you have a steel table and a chip appears, don't hesitate to apply a rust-stop product to limit its spread.

What should you do with your garden table in winter?

To best preserve your outdoor table, if you have a garden shed, cellar or garage, it's strongly recommended that you store the table in one of these spaces. Remember to cover the table with a protective cover, as this helps prevent moisture and protects it from dust. If you don't have anywhere to shelter your table, protect it entirely with an outdoor tarpaulin. It's a good idea to do the same for all your garden furniture.
