3-seat brown buffalo leather sofa

The Barnabé sofa is entirely upholstered in buffalo leather, from the seat to the armrests and all the way down the sides. Wide horizontal channels: the recessed surface creates regular shadows along its entire length. Buffalo leather is among the thickest upholstery leathers, with dense fibres and a deep, richly grained texture whose relief can be felt to the touch. This natural leather darkens as it develops a patina, and every mark of use adds to its character.

Firm on the first day, the leather softens over the months and takes on the imprint of the places where people sit most often. Beneath it, 32 kg/m³ foam provides medium support, halfway between soft and firm. Measuring 220 cm in length, this three-seater has a 172 cm-wide seat with a depth of 61 cm: plenty of room to settle comfortably into the back. Low black metal legs barely lift it off the floor, giving it a solid, grounded silhouette.

Our interior design expert’s inspiration: place it on a thick wool rug wider than the sofa, so that the front legs rest on it. Facing it, add a substantial coffee table lower than the seat, with a thick top in raw wood or stone: a bold material suited to the scale of the leather. In the corner of the room, a large-leaved plant, such as a monstera, will soften the sofa’s straight lines.

Full-grain buffalo leather: the top layer of the hide, neither sanded nor buffed. The densest and most durable, it retains its original grain.
Firm at first, it softens with use and conforms to the shape of the body.
An earthy, musky smell typical of buffalo, a sign of authenticity: it fades within a few weeks; allow the product to air out.
It develops a patina and darkens slightly; scratches and signs of use are part of the material and do not affect its strength.

Dust the leather with a soft, dry cloth or a fine-bristled brush, following the direction of the grain. Remove marks with a barely damp cloth, then dry immediately. Do not use any chemicals, solvents, alcohol or stain removers: buffalo leather is a natural material that cannot tolerate them. Once or twice a year, apply a leather polish or balm to nourish it and maintain its suppleness. Avoid direct sunlight and proximity to a heat source, which can dry out the fibres.
For the metal, a damp cloth followed by a dry wipe is sufficient: do not use corrosive products, and dry thoroughly to prevent rust.
